PATHWAYS TO EMPOYMENT PROJECT ENDS

Due to funding restrictions, the PtoE project has come to an end. The project has had many great achievements over the years and hopes that the toolkits and links available on this site will continue to benefit all the young people with interest.

Pathways to Employment was a project run by Groundwork South Essex in the Thames Gateway area which operated in Thurrock.  Like the Department for Community, Schools and Families, we believe that being out of education, employment or training (NEET) between the ages of 16 – 25 is an enormous waste of young people’s potential and their contribution to society. As such, we aim to help reduce the proportion of NEET young people by:

  • Increasing the employability of adults and young people.
  • Maximising the potential of young people by brokering them into volunteering opportunities and supporting them as they gain and or improve work skills.
  • Improving the skill levels of people with limited formal qualifications.
  • Creating new volunteering opportunities across all sectors, catering for various interests.

Who are the target groups?

The 3 target groups are young people between the ages of 16 –25 years who are not in employment, education or training (NEET)

  • With Life Limiting illnesses
  • From Black Asian and Minority Ethnic Groups
  • Those with low or no qualifications above NVQ level 2

How does it work?

The project identifies volunteering opportunities within local organisations and then matches the vacancies with suitable candidates. It is designed to help people with no qualifications and or training to use volunteering as a pathway to employment.

  • Volunteers are given support throughout their volunteering experience and are encouraged to recommend others to join the project.
  • Also provides support for both the volunteers from the target group and the host organisations to ensure greater success and value from the experience
  • Volunteering experiences vary between 1 – 12 months and travel/lunch expenses are usually reimbursed.
